Religion-based biased criticism of Polyamory

An example of religion-based biased criticism of Polyamory can be found in an article in the National Review linked below. This is not surprising, as the National Review is a conservative medium. But I think the kind of cherry picking that the authors do here is extreme.

Instead of science only selected individual cases

The media and scientists who write about polyamory are criticized here for their too positive attitude towards polyamory, but at the same time, the author’s are not aware of their own unquestioned positive attitude towards monogamy.

From the fact that the vast majority of Americans are still in favour of monogamy, a superiority of monogamy is deduced. And the uncomfortable facts such as the divorce statistics, which have shown for decades that monogamy as a model for lasting relationships does not work for most people, are left out.

It is also ignored that it has been scientifically proven that humans are naturally polygamous and monogamy is not natural for us. I refer you to the books by David Barash summarizing the vast body of evidence: The Myth of Monogamy: Fidelity and Infidelity in Animals and People, from 2002, and in his recent work from 2016 Out of Eden: The Surprising Consequences of Polygamy.

And in order to prove how bad polyamory is, individual cases of problems are cited, but the numerous studies on the positive effects of polyamory are ignored or summarily dismissed as not being scientifically sound.

Where all this comes from becomes clear when we are reminded at the end that monogamy is better with reference to the Bible.

I always find it fascinating, or frightening, when at least nominally educated people cling to the Bible. For the Bible, scientifically proven for two hundred years, is a collection of falsified documents, untrustworthy fantasies, and prophecies that never came true, written by uneducated people for even more illiterate, superstitious people.
